CBD for Dogs: A Good Idea?

There’s one animal on Earth that we can say CBD could certainly be very good for. That’s us. The massive surge in popularity that this substance has seen in quite a short space of time is all down to its myriad benefits, many of which have been demonstrated and many more of which are attested to by millions of users. For humans, CBD can help with insomnia, managing pain, relieving stress and anxiety, reducing inflammation, and much more. This is why products like CBD oil are so popular.

However, when it comes to man’s best friend, there is naturally a little less research and notably fewer positive testimonials (besides “woof woof”). But that’s not to say that giving CBD to your dog is not a good idea. There is anecdotal evidence of the positive effects of administering CBD to dogs. Furthermore, there is much reason to believe that many of the same benefits which humans enjoy would also apply to dogs. There is though the question of safety, as well as whether CBD actually does anything at all to canines.

That said, there is good anecdotal evidence that it can be a very good idea, if administered safely, to give CBD to dogs in order to treat certain conditions. And this raises an important point – putting a dog on CBD regularly, as a canine daily lifestyle choice, is probably not advised. CBD experts Yammy CBD, however, note that dog products containing CBD do exist.

Is it Safe?

Again, there isn’t a great deal of evidence here. Most of the research and evidence we have for CBD’s safety has involved humans. For us then, it is certainly safe, and we are discovering more benefits by the day. That would suggest that it is highly likely CBD is not only safe, but beneficial for dogs too.

Nevertheless, if you are going to give your dog CBD, it is probably best to reduce the dosage or give them a CBD product designed specifically for dogs. This is logical given the lower body mass of most dogs when compared to humans.

Potential Benefits of CBD for Dogs

With these especially important points out of the way, here are just a few of the reasons why you might decide to give your dog CBD. More research is required, but if CBD dog products are to become popular, these potential benefits are likely to be the reason.

Anti-Inflammatory Effects

The anti-inflammatory effects of CBD are one of the main reasons CBD has become so popular for humans. The substance is likely to have this effect on dogs too, which could be a massive benefit. Many dog health problems involve inflammation, particularly in the mouth where things like infection and gum disease can lay a canine low.

Anti-Anxiety Effects

It’s very hard to judge if CBD calms canines down. However, it is known to have this effect on humans, and the potential here is again great. Dogs become frightened and excitable in all sorts of situations; it could be a massive benefit to have CBD in your arsenal when this happens.

Anti-Nausea

Dogs eat the wrong thing all the time, and they become sick as a result. This can often lead to a mess in the house – or worse. Keeping a canine’s nausea at bay is another potential benefit and one which, if proved, would be seriously attractive to dog owners.

As you might have guessed, the main problem is that we just don’t know enough yet to say what the benefits of CBD for dogs really are, but it seems more than likely that there are, indeed, benefits.
